Russell Wilson’s run with the Denver Broncos looks to be coming to an end. Multiple league sources have confirmed that the Broncos will be benching the quarterback for their final two games and giving Jarrett Stidham the starting spot. Denver (7-8) will face the Los Angeles Chargers at home on Sunday and then visit the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18. Wilson will serve as the No. 2 quarterback, according to a team source.
Wilson is reportedly anticipating being cut in March, as reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. This would come just two years after the Broncos made a substantial trade with Seattle to acquire the nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback, involving two first-round picks, two second-round picks, three players, and more.

Broncos’ trade for Russell Wilson was a disaster, but blame extends past QB
This season, Wilson has thrown for 3,070 yards with 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions under head coach Sean Payton, in his first season with the Broncos. However, his contract poses a problem, with $39 million guaranteed for 2024 and $37 million in injury guarantees. These guarantees become fully guaranteed if he is still on the roster on the fifth day of the 2024 league year that begins in March.
Looking ahead to 2024, it raises questions about Wilson’s future with the Broncos. If he is indeed cut, there are four potential teams with a need and interest – the Raiders, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, and Washington Commanders. The Athletic’s beat writers for those teams have weighed in on why Wilson might be a fit, and why he might not be a fit.
Las Vegas Raiders
Why Wilson might be a fit: Despite Wilson no longer being at a Pro Bowl-level, he remains a starting-caliber quarterback. If the Raiders aren’t able to draft their quarterback of the future and he’s willing to sign for a cheaper deal, it could make sense to sign him to compete for the starting job.
Why he might not: The Raiders are in desperate need of drafting their quarterback of the future and are focused on resetting their timeline, making adding a declining veteran quarterback an unlikely move.

Minnesota Vikings
Why Wilson might be a fit: With Kirk Cousins’ future uncertain, Wilson could potentially serve as a bridge quarterback and compete alongside other options if he’s released.
Why he might not: The asking price for Wilson and his fit with the team’s coaching style raise doubts about this potential move for the Vikings.
New England Patriots
Why Wilson might be a fit: If the Patriots are in need of a quarterback in 2024 and decide to opt for a quick-fix plan rather than a rebuild, Wilson could be a potential option.
Why he might not: The Patriots may have other plans, including potentially looking to acquire a quarterback on a rookie contract. Wilson’s age and suitability for the team’s long-term plans also come into question.
Washington Commanders
Why Wilson might be a fit: With a long history of quarterback struggles, Washington may consider Wilson as a viable option for a quick turnaround.
Why he might not: The team’s past interest, uncertain future, and other positional needs make it unlikely that they would pursue Wilson as a potential option for the future.
