Welcome to The Athletic’s Premier League stadium rankings, a fun exercise that involves subjective opinions and questionable math. We apologize in advance for any annoyance caused by our choices and rankings. We have put a lot of effort into this and mean no harm.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the rankings. You might even agree with some of it.
To reach these rankings, we formed a working group that divided scoring into four categories: Matchday experience, match atmosphere, transport and location, and aesthetics. Each category was given a percentage weight and panel members rated each stadium in each category. The final ranking is based on the average and weighted scores.
Each category has its complexities. Atmosphere can depend on various factors like team performance and the opposition. Matchday experience can be influenced by safety and stewarding. And aesthetics are subjective.
We consulted stadium experts, our own writers, and the Football Supporters’ Association for guidance.
