Operva AI is looking to transform the facade inspection industry with its innovative platform, Airpland. This cloud-based solution allows pilots and businesses to deploy drones autonomously, visualize detailed maps and 3D data, and access a global network of drone talent. Airpland streamlines drone operations and improves collaboration and progress tracking, making it a comprehensive tool for efficient facade inspections.
“Our goal is to enhance inspection and monitoring processes in the built environment for better efficiency, safety, and financial outcomes,” says Terry Ng, Head of Strategy and Operations at Operva AI.
“Our software solution streamlines the building inspection process by using AI to detect and label defects and observations, while employing a structured inspection methodology with automated reports and dashboards. Our monitoring solution for construction sites uses photogrammetry to create quality 3D models and detailed 2D orthophotos for easy comparison of progress.”
The startup recently participated in the International Built Environment Week (IBEW) 2024 in Singapore, showcasing its tech innovation in the construction and built environment sectors.
In an email to e27, Ng elaborates on the company’s work and future plans. Here are some excerpts from the conversation.
Why is your solution better than the existing alternatives?
Compared to traditional manual methods, our combination of drones and software is less labor-intensive and safer.
Compared to other drone-based competitors, we have synergies between our products and focus on process improvements, leading to cost reductions.
Compared to overseas companies, being in Singapore offers advantages due to strong regulatory frameworks and alignment with local authorities.
Can you tell us about your product development journey at Operva AI?
Our journey has been one of experimentation, starting with photogrammetry and progressing to develop our Airpland platform. Participation in the BEAMP programme helped enhance our solutions for building inspections.
Can you tell us more about your users’ profiles and acquisition strategy?
Our users include engineers, inspectors, managers, and pilots. Customer acquisition is driven by referrals, introductions, and a visible presence in the industry.
In the near term, Operva AI aims to focus on the local market and expand overseas gradually, targeting mid-size construction projects.
What is Operva AI’s funding history?
The startup has been primarily funded by shareholder equity, revenue, and government grants. They are seeking investors familiar with the built environment industry for future growth.
What is the big plan for Operva AI in 2024 and beyond?
The current software suite is fully commercialized, with plans to enhance product offerings and integrate existing products more tightly. The next focus is on improving 3D model outputs for broader applications.
