Magic Johnson and Isiah Thomas Respond to Anthony Edwards’ Criticism of Older Generation in Basketball

Anthony Edwards has strong opinions about players from generations before his time. Magic Johnson dismissed Edwards’ remarks, stating that he lacks the credentials to make such claims. Isiah Thomas also weighed in, sparking some offseason NBA drama.

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Edwards confidently shared his thoughts. When asked if there’s anything he’s not good at, he replied, “I haven’t found it yet.” He even mentioned dunking on Kevin Durant in practice as a standout Olympic moment.

When questioned about the differences between today’s basketball generation and the older one, Edwards, born in 2001, admitted, “I didn’t watch it back in the day so I can’t speak on it.” He controversially said that only Michael Jordan had real skill in the past, while today’s players are all skilled.

This comment did not sit well with Magic Johnson, who emphasized that Edwards needs to win a championship before making such claims. Isiah Thomas also chimed in, warning about believing in propaganda.

Thomas later criticized the current generation for their emphasis on the 3-point shot and argued that taller players lack skills in post offense and defense. He also pointed out that rule changes make today’s players appear faster.

In summary, Edwards sparked controversy with his comments, Johnson responded despite his initial stance, and Thomas shared his thoughts at length. Edwards, known for his bold statements, is focused on continuous improvement rather than rushing to win a championship.

With two All-Star appearances and a deep playoff run with the Timberwolves, Edwards is still chasing his first ring. He remains patient about achieving this goal, citing examples of players who took years to win championships.
