President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has instructed a full assessment of the performance of all sports federations that were part of the Egyptian Olympic team for the Paris 2024 Games. This evaluation aims to enhance the sports system’s performance, promote accountability and transparency, and eliminate any obstacles that may hinder athletes and sports development, ultimately showcasing Egypt’s excellence and bringing joy to its people.
Based on a report presented by the Minister of Youth and Sports, President El-Sisi has issued immediate measures to be implemented. These include a detailed review of the financial allocations to sports federations involved in Olympic competitions, assessing grants given to federations based on their performance and setting clear criteria for future funding. Additionally, support will be provided to federations that have excelled in competitions beyond expectations to boost their performance in future events.
The President has also directed actions against federations whose members have tarnished the reputation of Egyptian sports. He has advocated for participation in sports where Egypt has a competitive edge, focusing on promising athletes. Selection criteria will be established by comparing local achievements with Olympic standards. Moreover, the number of technical and administrative staff in Olympic delegations will be reduced, with ministries cooperating to groom the best candidates for competition.
Presidential spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Fahmy, stated that President El-Sisi has instructed authorities to review the plan for future Olympic Games participation, aligning it with proposed regulations to ensure optimal performance by athletes. The plan will be presented to the cabinet for approval, with the government prioritizing amendments to the sports law to be presented to the House of Representatives promptly.
