Morocco solidifies its leadership role in Africa at China-Africa Summit

The recent Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing emphasized Morocco’s position as a key leader in Africa, prioritizing the continent’s development and prosperity in line with His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s directives.

This Summit highlighted Morocco’s strong commitment to collaboration with China and Africa, promoting cooperation based on solidarity and mutual benefit.

The participation of Heads of State and Government from China and African nations showcased Morocco’s approach to diversifying economic partnerships in Africa and promoting effective South-South cooperation.

The Summit focused on key areas for Africa such as industrialization, agriculture, governance, infrastructure, peace, and security, leading to the adoption of important documents like the Beijing Declaration and the 2025-2027 Action Plan.

Moroccan diplomacy played a crucial role in promoting the Kingdom’s achievements and countering Algerian attempts to disrupt the Summit and its outcomes.

The Beijing Declaration and Action Plan emphasized the importance of African membership in FOCAC, while also recognizing Morocco’s initiatives in areas like climate action, artificial intelligence, and counter-terrorism.

FOCAC’s acknowledgment of Morocco’s role in organizing events like COP 22 and the High-Level Forum on AI, as well as initiatives like the Rabat Office of the UN Counter-Terrorism Program, showcased the Kingdom’s contributions to Africa’s development.

Through its involvement in FOCAC over the past 24 years, Morocco has established itself as a key actor in China-Africa cooperation, leveraging its relationships with China and African countries to advance mutual goals.

This Summit reaffirms Morocco’s commitment to Africa’s progress and prosperity, as well as its active role in shaping the future of China-Africa relations.
