President Xi Jinping met with Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) Moussa Faki Mahamat, who is in China for the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 3, 2024.
Xi Jinping highlighted the importance of the African Union (AU) as a platform for international cooperation. China and the AU have strengthened political mutual trust and cooperation in recent years, with projects like the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing the commitment to Africa’s health. China supports the AU in promoting China-Africa friendship and aims to deepen cooperation in various fields to enhance the community with a shared future.
Xi Jinping emphasized the rapid changes in the world and the growing strength of the Global South, including China and Africa. Africa is a priority in China’s diplomacy, and both sides should deepen political exchanges, strengthen strategic trust, and support each other for common development while advocating for a fair and inclusive world order.
Moussa Faki Mahamat praised the progress in AU-China relations during his tenure and thanked President Xi Jinping for his leadership in advancing the partnership. China’s long-standing support for Africa’s development and initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative are crucial for global cooperation and development. The African side supports China’s core interests and expects continued leadership in helping Africa achieve modernization and global peace.
Wang Yi also attended the meeting, representing China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa.
