President Akufo-Addo emphasizes importance of technology, education, and health in necessary transformation.

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has emphasized the crucial role of technology, education, and health in driving Africa’s transformation.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary of the Council on Foreign Relations Ghana, the President delivered a speech on the theme “The Limits of the Current Development Co-operation Framework for Africa’s Transformation,” stressing the need for investments in these vital sectors to achieve sustainable and inclusive development across the continent.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the opportunities presented by the digital revolution in accelerating development, enhancing economic competitiveness, and improving service delivery in Africa. However, he also acknowledged the challenges that come with these opportunities and the importance of ensuring equitable distribution of the benefits of technology.

“To leverage the potential of technology, we must invest in digital infrastructure, expand broadband connectivity, increase access to ICT, and develop digital skills,” the President stated. He emphasized the importance of bridging the digital divide to ensure all Africans can participate in the digital economy.

President Akufo-Addo also emphasized the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in driving economic growth. He called for the creation of environments conducive to startups and the development of innovation ecosystems to address local challenges with new technologies and business models.

In the field of education, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his government’s commitment to providing quality education for all Ghanaians, citing the success of the Free SHS policy. He also stressed the importance of TVET in closing skills gaps and enhancing employability.

“Quality education is a fundamental right and a driver of development,” President Akufo-Addo stated, urging continued investment in educational infrastructure to ensure equal access to quality education for all children.

The President also highlighted the critical role of health in sustainable development, noting its importance in driving economic growth. He outlined efforts to improve healthcare in Ghana, including the Agenda 111 initiative and the establishment of the National Vaccine Institute to achieve vaccine self-reliance.

In conclusion, President Akufo-Addo called for ongoing investment in technology, education, and health as key pillars of Africa’s transformation, expressing confidence that sustainable and inclusive development can be achieved by harnessing technology, ensuring quality education access, and strengthening health systems.
