Seasoned Salt Made From Scratch

Seasoned salt is a versatile seasoning blend that can be used on a variety of dishes. I like to keep a large mason jar of this homemade mix in my spice cabinet for easy use in soups, stews, chicken, beef, eggs, and breakfast foods.

It’s a simple mixture of salt (I prefer Himalayan salt) and spices that takes only a minute to make. By combining common spices, it speeds up the seasoning process for recipes.

My History With Seasoned Salt

Back in college, Lawry’s Seasoned Salt was my go-to seasoning (cringe-worthy now). I used it to make microwave-cooked ramen noodles somewhat palatable. However, store-bought versions often contain table salt, GMO cornstarch, and hidden MSG from “spices.”

Thankfully, my palate has evolved, and I now prefer a healthier version of seasoned salt and use it in a wide range of recipes.

How to Make Seasoned Salt

This homemade seasoned salt is made with natural spices for a versatile flavor profile that complements many dishes. You can customize it by adding smoked paprika for a bacon-like taste, turmeric for color and anti-inflammatory benefits, or cayenne pepper for heat.

Mixing the spices together is a simple process that can be done with kids, making it a fun and easy recipe to prepare.

Homemade Seasoned Salt

Now, I’m sharing my homemade seasoned salt recipe to pay homage to my college food choices and celebrate my love for real, healthy food. As Erma Bombeck said, “Once you get a spice in your home, you have it forever.”
