ANAHEIM, Calif. — Unfortunately, Mike Trout’s season has once again been cut short due to injury, marking the third time in the last four seasons this has happened.
The Los Angeles Angels announced that the three-time MVP will miss the remainder of the 2024 season with a second meniscus tear in his left knee. Trout later confirmed this news, expressing his devastation in a social media post.
Trout had initially undergone surgery for a meniscus tear on May 3 and had recently started a rehab assignment at Triple A after an extended recovery period. However, his rehab was short-lived as he experienced discomfort and had to return to Anaheim for further evaluation.
Angels’ general manager Perry Minasian explained that Trout started to feel significant pain on Monday, leading to additional imaging that revealed the tear. The exact cause of the reinjury remains unclear.

Minasian expressed his support for Trout during this challenging time, emphasizing Trout’s dedication to returning to the field. He also noted that the tear occurred in a different spot than the initial injury, indicating it was not a retear.
Trout’s ongoing durability concerns have raised questions about how the Angels will manage his workload moving forward. Despite his injuries, the team remains hopeful that Trout can regain his MVP form in the future.
