Museveni and Tayebwa advocate for transparency in wealth creation programs

President Yoweri Museveni has instructed accounting officers to be vigilant when it comes to accountability in wealth creation programs aimed at eradicating rural poverty.

Museveni emphasized the need for transparency in programs like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to benefit its recipients.

“The NRM’s ideology and politics aim to address people’s issues through initiatives like wealth creation in agriculture. I encourage the people of Mitooma to explore coffee farming opportunities,” he stated.

The President, accompanied by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, spoke at a rally at Rwakitandara Playground in Ruhinda North County, Mitooma District on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Before the rally, a thanksgiving Mass was held for Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and his father, Daudi Bangirana, during the consecration of St. Karoli Lwanga Kigarama Catholic Parish by Archbishop Lambert Bainomugisha of Mbarara Archdiocese.

President Museveni applauded the wealth generation projects in the region and donated Shs50 million to Ruhinda North Women’s Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization.

Speaker Anita Among praised the Deputy Speaker for their effective collaboration in Parliament and thanked President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni for their support of family values that contribute to the smooth functioning of Parliament.

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa urged the locals to engage in coffee farming to boost household incomes through agriculture, mentioning the need for subsidies on fertilizers and the availability of 35,000 coffee seedlings for distribution.

He noted the progress of the PDM program in the constituency despite cases of corruption, with culprits being arrested and further investigations ongoing.

Mitooma District Chairperson, Benon Karyeija, appealed to the President for support in the tea sector to prevent the decline of tea plantations in the district.

The consecration Mass of St. Karoli Lwanga Kigarama Catholic Parish was attended by Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, several ministers, and Members of Parliament.
