Get to Know the Finalists Leading the Way in Sustainable Innovation at the Climate Impact Innovations Challenge 2024

The Climate Impact Innovations Challenge (CIIC) 2024, a climate innovation tech competition organised by East Ventures and Temasek Foundation, has announced the nine startups selected for the programme.

In the coming months, the finalists will receive mentorship from ecosystem leaders to gain insights into building partnerships, go-to-market and commercialisation strategy, and public speaking.

In its 2024 edition, CIIC offers teams the opportunity to compete across three tracks: energy transition, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy, with a total prize pool of Rp 10 billion (~US$617,000) to pilot their solutions within Indonesia.

They will also deliver their final pitch at the Climate Impact Innovations Challenge 2024 Grand Finale on 6 September 2024 as part of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 in Jakarta.

Below are brief profiles of the finalists of CIIC 2024:

Energy transition track

ENWISE (China): Builds and operates onsite bioenergy stations to fuel a zero-carbon industry.

Renewable Metals (Australia): 95 per cent recovery of Lithium, Nickel, Cobalt, Copper, and Manganese from lithium-ion batteries at 30 per cent lower cost.

SunGreenH2 (Singapore): 200 per cent hydrogen production with 20 per cent higher energy-efficient electrolyzer with the landed cost of hydrogen at US$3/kg.

Sustainable agriculture track

DayaTani (Indonesia): Improving smallholder farmers’ livelihoods through input financing, best-in-class agriculture practices, and farm intelligence to boost crop yields.

Hydrogen Refinery (UK): Low-cost production of ammonia-based fertilizers via plasma electrolysis of waste to reduce up to 11 tonnes of GHG emissions per tonne of fertilizer.

JALA Tech (Indonesia): Empowers the shrimp industry with end-to-end solutions for optimised production, efficient cultivation, and traceable high-quality seafood

Circular economy track

AC Biode (Japan): Scalable chemolysis of mixed organic waste to produce syngas for green energy generation.

Mushroom Material (Singapore/New Zealand): Offering a groundbreaking solution that replaces expanded polystyrene (styrofoam) with a sustainable alternative derived from mushrooms.

Parongpong RAW Lab (Indonesia): Converting ocean plastics waste and ghost nets through a coastal community-based micro-factory to produce high-quality, sustainable building materials.
