Adukt’s Impact: Empowering the Resilient African Community through Health and Hope with REACH

Training has been provided by the South Sudan Red Cross to more than 70 dedicated individuals as community health workers in Wau State, located in the rugged landscapes of Western Bahr el Ghazal region.

As part of the Resilient and Empowered African Community Health (REACH) initiative, these local heroes have become crucial resources for their communities, providing essential health services right at their doorsteps. Armed with medical knowledge, empathy, and dedication, they are bridging the healthcare access gap that has long affected the region.

In villages where healthcare was once scarce, these community health workers are now trusted figures. They administer vaccines, offer maternal care, and educate families on hygiene practices to prevent diseases. Additionally, they play a key role in identifying complex cases that require specialized attention and refer them to nearby health centers promptly.

One example is Adut, a young mother turned community health worker, who joined the program to help children suffering from preventable diseases. Her dedication extends beyond her daily duties, as she empowers families with knowledge and tools to lead healthier lives.

The REACH initiative, supported by the South Sudan Red Cross, IFRC, and Africa CDC, aims to empower local communities by training and equipping community health workers like Adut to provide critical healthcare services directly to their neighbors.

Through comprehensive training, ongoing support, and access to essential resources, the program enables these individuals to deliver vital healthcare services, overcoming barriers of distance and infrastructure.
