On Monday, the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) inaugurated a center dedicated to enhancing talent, innovation, and growth programs in cybersecurity.

The CyberSG Talent, Innovation, and Growth (TIG) Collaboration Centre was unveiled by Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information.

During the event, NUS also established strategic partnerships through Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with SGInnovate and Plexal to drive innovation and growth within Singapore’s cybersecurity ecosystem. These partnerships are expected to enhance the effectiveness and reach of the center.

The center, which was first revealed in September 2023, is a joint initiative supported by S$20 million in funding from the government and NUS. The collaboration is aimed at positioning Singapore as a leading global cybersecurity innovation hub, promoting economic growth, and meeting the rising demand for robust cybersecurity solutions.

Located at LaunchPad @ one-north, the center will serve as a central hub bringing together government, academia, and industry to drive impactful initiatives in the cybersecurity sector and capitalize on opportunities presented by digitalization. It will also leverage NUS Enterprise’s extensive global BLOCK71 network and innovation infrastructure to provide cybersecurity talents and companies with resources and opportunities for growth.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the official opening of the CyberSG TIG Collaboration Centre. NUS Enterprise is committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and entrepreneurship to cultivate a thriving cybersecurity innovation ecosystem in Singapore,” said Associate Professor Benjamin Tee, Vice President (Ecosystem Building), NUS.

“This center will synergize and leverage the collective expertise and resources of academia, industry, government, and local and international partners. Our partnerships with Plexal and SGInnovate are a significant step towards supporting startups that drive global innovation and business opportunities towards a more secure digital future in Singapore and beyond.”

The center’s strategic initiatives are focused on three core pillars:

Talent
The center aims to develop a diverse talent pool equipped with cybersecurity skills applicable across various industries and functions. It also focuses on training professionals with advanced cybersecurity expertise through programs like SG Cyber Associates, SG Cyber Youth, SG Cyber Professionals, and SG Cyber Talent Development Fund.

Innovation
The center endeavors to foster co-innovation with the industry to facilitate the transition from innovation to commercialization, nurturing promising cybersecurity companies for Singapore and the region through programs like Cybersecurity Industry Call for Innovation (CyberCall) and CyberBoost.

Growth
Lastly, the center aims to support cybersecurity companies based in Singapore to expand regionally and globally. The CyberGrowth program, focused on cybersecurity exports, helps promising companies expand while leveraging NUS’ BLOCK71 incubation hubs in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the US.

“We are excited to reach this significant milestone with the opening of the CyberSG TIG Collaboration Centre, which consolidates some of our talent and ecosystem development efforts. Our partners, whether from government, industry, or academia, play a crucial role in this endeavor. We look forward to the continued support of our stakeholders in positioning Singapore at the forefront of cybersecurity innovation,” said Phua Puay Li, Assistant Chief Executive (Policy and Corporate Development) at CSA.
