Cameroon Takes Major Step Forward in Gas-to-Industry Initiative with Inaugural Delivery from Bipaga Processing Center

The first gas cargo from the Bipaga Gas Processing Center in Cameroon has been successfully transported to the Keda Ceramics manufacturing plant via a 6 km-long pipeline built by SNH and Perenco. The gas will power factory generators and kilns at Keda Ceramics, enabling the production of approximately 20 million m² of ceramic tiles once the facility is fully operational.

The AEC applauds Perenco and the Cameroonian government for this milestone achievement, marking the first gas-to-industry project led by Perenco in Central Africa. This delivery highlights the significant role of natural gas in driving industrialization in the region, supporting domestic manufacturing, job creation, and economic growth in Cameroon.

Cameroon is committed to becoming a manufacturing hub by developing natural gas projects to drive industrialization. The project at Keda Ceramics is part of the country’s Industrialization Master Plan, aiming to position Cameroon as a regional electricity provider, agro-industrial produce supplier, and top equipment manufacturer. The factory will create 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in the Kribi region and operate under a 20-year gas supply agreement with Perenco and SNH.

Cameroon is also focused on enhancing gas monetization, with plans to increase LNG production and promote clean cooking with LPG. The country’s LPG Masterplan seeks to strengthen infrastructure for LPG production, storage, and distribution, while investments in natural gas projects aim to boost electrification and economic growth.

Through continued exploration and development of gas reserves, Cameroon is paving the way for industrialization in Africa. The country’s strategic approach to gas processing and distribution, along with efforts to sustain gas supplies through exploration, is catalyzing industrial development nationwide, making gas a crucial fuel for industrialization in the region.
