Accra to Host First-Ever Green Film Festival (GFF)

Accra is gearing up to host the first-ever Green Film Festival (GFF) from October 11th to 12th, 2024, across various locations in the city. This two-day event is focused on merging the emotive power of storytelling with urgent environmental topics, creating a profound connection between participants and the natural world.

A New Era of Environmental Awareness Through Film

The Green Film Festival goes beyond just showcasing films; it’s a movement aimed at inspiring sustainable living and ecological responsibility in individuals and institutions. Through a curated selection of impactful short films that explore climate change and environmental conservation, GFF aims to educate and challenge viewers, encouraging them to reassess their environmental impact. The festival will delve into five (5) crucial themes for the future of our planet: Biodiversity, Activism, Food, Climate Displacement, and Wildlife Conservation.

The festival has garnered support from notable figures in the media and climate fields, including EIB Network’s Chief Executive Officer Nathan Kwabena Anokye Addisi, known as BOLA RAY, and Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC’s) Working Group Prof Nana Ama Browne Klutse among others.

Festival Highlights

– Daily Screenings: Attendees can expect daily screenings of 15 to 30-minute films chosen for their ability to provoke thoughts and inspire climate action.

– Interactive Workshops: Post-screening discussions and workshops will guide participants from awareness to practical action, empowering them to integrate sustainable practices into their lives.

– Eco-Themed Celebration: The festival will conclude with a grand eco-themed park event, celebrating sustainability through arts, sculptures, music, and a major film screening.

“The Green Film Festival is a crucial initiative to mobilize our community around the urgent issues of climate change and environmental sustainability. Through the power of film, we can raise awareness and drive action, motivating individuals and institutions to adopt sustainable practices. This festival showcases the impact of creative media in shaping a more resilient and eco-conscious future.” –  Isaac Aboah, Festival Co-director.

“Our world is facing unprecedented environmental challenges, from climate change to biodiversity loss. The Green Film Festival acts as a powerful platform to amplify these urgent messages through storytelling. By leveraging film’s persuasive nature, we aim to inspire action and urge local and international organizations to lead by example and promote environmental stewardship.” – Joshua Amponsem, Festival Co-director.
