Esther Keji has been a frequent guest on Radio Miraya, operated by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan, where she shares her views on the challenges faced by young people in the country and promotes peace.
Today, she took on a new role: interviewing the leader of the United Nations General Assembly, representing all 193 Member States.
During the interview, Esther asked about the importance of education for children in South Sudan and what the UN could do to improve access to education. President Francis emphasized the significance of education, stating that it is the key to success and encouraging young people to study hard despite the challenges they face.
South Sudan has a young population, yet 70% of children are not attending school due to various factors such as conflict, climate crises, poverty, and cultural discrimination. President Francis stressed the importance of education for the country’s future and called for collective action to ensure all children receive the education they deserve.
Radio Miraya, set to celebrate its 18th anniversary, plays a vital role in reaching South Sudanese communities with important news and supporting peacebuilding efforts. President Francis visited the radio station, engaging with young broadcasters and expressing his appreciation for their work.
The President left the station inspired by the determination and passion for peace shown by the children of South Sudan, as they strive for better opportunities and a brighter future.
