Dr. Eric Kehinde Ogunleye Named Director of African Development Institute by African Development Bank

The African Development Bank (www.AfDB.org) has announced the appointment of Dr. Eric Kehinde Ogunleye, a seasoned macroeconomist, as Director of the African Development Institute (apo-opa.co/4cjzZUN), effective June 1, 2024.

Dr. Ogunleye, a Nigerian national, brings nearly two decades of experience in macroeconomics, development economics, capacity development, public governance, regulatory reform, monitoring and evaluation, and policy advisory. His career highlights include leading capacity development and policy advisory initiatives at a national level and fostering significant global partnerships to drive impactful results.

Prior to this role, Dr. Ogunleye served as the Officer in Charge and Manager of the Policy Management Division at the African Development Institute. He also held positions as an Advisor to the Chief Economist and Vice President of the Economic Governance and Knowledge Management Complex. His contributions were instrumental in shaping the Bank Group’s Capacity Development Strategy and establishing initiatives like the Public Finance Management Academy for Africa and the Macroeconomic Management Academy for Africa.

Dr. Ogunleye has played a key role in enhancing institutional capacity building and fiduciary clinics, consistently covering 20 country portfolios annually to improve the Bank’s operations in Regional Member Countries. He also led the successful launch of the Public Finance Management Academy for Africa, training public officials from 45 African countries in public financial and debt management.

With a diverse background that includes consulting for the President of Nigeria on international trade and finance, Dr. Ogunleye has contributed significantly to policy research, capacity development, and monitoring and evaluation of socio-economic policies. His academic achievements include a PhD and MSc in Economics, a BSc in Economics, and certifications in advanced development economics and public policy.

In response to his appointment, Dr. Ogunleye expressed his gratitude and commitment to furthering institutional capacities in regional member countries. President of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, commended Dr. Ogunleye’s expertise in institutional capacity development and expressed confidence in his ability to support regional member countries.
