Minister Pandor to Attend 2024 Nordic-African Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, will be going on an Official Visit to Denmark to participate in the 2024 Nordic-African Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, set to happen from 2-3 May 2024, in Copenhagen.

This two-day annual meeting will focus on the theme, “Multilateralism&increasing Trade and Investment”.

Various African Ministers of Foreign Affairs or their representatives have confirmed their attendance.

Established in 2000, the Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers Meeting involves five Nordic countries and ten African countries. Its main goal is to highlight Africa’s political importance and show that Africa-Nordic relations go beyond development cooperation.

This Meeting provides a platform for African countries to discuss key global issues and developments with countries from the North. It also serves as a tool for enhancing trade and investment between African and Nordic countries.

The Nordic-African Foreign Ministers Meeting will consist of two closed plenary sessions, one on Partnerships in the African Century and the other on Global Governance and International Financial Architecture.

Additionally, there will be two sessions of separate roundtables co-chaired by the Ministers from Africa and Nordic countries focusing on the topic, “Peace and Security will take place”.

Furthermore, the programme will include two-panel sessions:

(i) an Africa-Nordic Youth Panel discussing the theme – Youth and Economic Partnerships – with five youth representatives and two Foreign Ministers (one from Africa and one from the Nordics).

(ii) An Africa-Nordic Research-Policy Roundtable covering Economic Partnerships in an Age of Complexity: sustaining Peace and fostering Prosperity through Africa-Nordic cooperation.

The African-Nordic Business Meeting, taking place on Friday, 3 May 2024, aims to explore opportunities to enhance trade and investments between African and Nordic countries.

During the business meeting, there will be three-panel discussions involving African and Nordic Foreign Ministers, African and Nordic Country Trade representatives, and business organizations. The panels will focus on a High-level Session on increased Cooperation and Trade; a High-level Session on Green Transition and Digitization; and a High-level Session on Food Value Chains.

Minister Pandor will also engage in bilateral discussions with some of her counterparts from both the Nordic and African countries during her visit to Denmark.
