Africa joins the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation race, emerging as a key player in the digital advancement landscape

The AI craze that is revolutionizing business, government, and society worldwide is also sparking waves of innovation in Africa. This transformative technology is driving a surge of investment at the AI Everything Expo by GITEX AFRICA in Morocco next month.

Africa’s enormous AI potential is already reshaping digital progress in various sectors such as finance, agriculture, healthcare, and mobility. This has led to a thriving AI market, expected to grow by 30% annually to reach US$17 billion by 2030, according to analysts Statista.

The combination of this massive AI growth and a rapidly expanding population of 1.5 billion people, with 70% of them under the age of 30, presents a unique opportunity for AI acceleration in Africa. However, there are challenges to address, including talent development, venture funding, policy issues, and infrastructure gaps.

These critical challenges and opportunities will be tackled at the AI Everything Expo by GITEX AFRICA, a leading platform for AI exploration and deep tech innovation in Africa. The event will take place from 29-31 May 2024 in Marrakech, featuring top tech companies like Microsoft, IBM, Huawei, Nvidia, and Google, as well as numerous AI start-ups with innovative AI-driven products and services.

An abundance of investment opportunities in the AI sector in Africa

Microsoft, GITEX AFRICA’s official AI Partner, is at the forefront of AI investments and collaborations. The company’s recent US$1.5 billion investment in G42, a global leader in AI, aims to accelerate AI development in emerging economies like Africa. This strategic partnership will be highlighted at GITEX AFRICA 2024, where industry leaders, government officials, investors, and tech entrepreneurs will convene.

Lillian Barnard, President of Microsoft Africa, believes that AI can unlock vast investment opportunities in Africa. She emphasizes the transformative potential of AI across various sectors and stresses the need for responsible AI deployment. Dr. Adel Alsharji, the COO of Presight, notes the rapid growth of AI adoption in Africa and the significant impact it can have on economic growth and job creation.

African leaders shaping the global AI revolution

The AI Everything Expo will bring together leading experts in AI at the AI Everything Conference, one of the many conference stages at GITEX AFRICA. Headline speakers include prominent figures like Dragoș Tudorache, Mactar Seck, and Jepson Taylor, who will discuss the far-reaching impact of AI across industries.

Exhibitors at the event will showcase how AI is driving innovation in sectors such as education, agriculture, transport, retail, energy, and logistics. Clinify, a Nigerian start-up focused on digitizing medical records, exemplifies the transformative potential of AI in healthcare in Africa.

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, GITEX AFRICA is a premier tech event organized by KAOUN International. More information is available at www.GITEXAfrica.com.
