The Ministry of Agriculture held an assessment meeting in Mendefera, the Southern region, to review activities in the first quarter and the five-year strategic plan. Over 129 individuals, including sub-zonal administrators and agricultural experts, participated in the event.
Presentations were made on the key components of the strategic plan, covering areas such as land development, natural resources management, crop and livestock development, agro-business, and human resources development.
Ministry branch heads reported on initiatives like water and soil conservation, dam construction, vegetable and fruit development, livestock health, and crop seed production. Discussions also covered agricultural inspection, forestry and wildlife conservation.
Participants discussed reports and made recommendations such as prioritizing productivity development, community-based conservation, promoting sweet potatoes, monitoring expert productivity, organic pesticide production, supporting exemplary farmers, solar irrigation systems, and ensuring improved crop seed supply.
Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, highlighted initiatives to boost production through exemplary farmers, family programs, and agro-businesses, emphasizing the importance of conservation, poultry farms, sweet potatoes, beekeeping, and improved seeds and fertilizers.
The importance of regular assessment meetings was stressed by Minister Arefaine, urging members, experts, administrators, and the public to review their activities consistently.
Governor of the Southern Region, Mr. Habteab Tesfatsion, emphasized sustainable assessments, expert contributions, and effective conservation efforts, urging institutions to participate in livestock vaccination programs.
