The Constitutional Court of Indonesia has rejected two appeals from losing presidential candidates, confirming Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto’s victory in the February election. Anies Baswedan and Ganjar Pranowo had requested a rerun citing irregularities, but the court ruled against them due to lack of evidence.
Prabowo won with 58.6% of the vote, leading to allegations of fraud and state interference from the losing candidates. The court stated that the election result is final, paving the way for Prabowo to assume office in October.
There were claims of nepotism and abuse of power during the election campaign. However, the court found no evidence of Jokowi interfering in appointing Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Prabowo’s running mate. Despite dissenting opinions, the court upheld Prabowo’s victory.
It was expected that the appeals would be rejected given the significant margin of Prabowo’s win. Both Anies and Ganjar have accepted the court’s decision and expressed their respect for Prabowo as the incoming president.
