The Intrinsic Appeal of Luke McCaffrey as an NFL Draft Prospect

A quarterback who transitions to receiver in college? Look no further than Anquan Boldin.

The former San Francisco 49er started as a quarterback at Florida State, switched to wide receiver, and even played both positions in his final collegiate game, the 2003 Sugar Bowl.

After focusing on one position, Boldin became a top route runner and reliable target, ranking ninth on the NFL’s all-time catch list.

This made him a great mentor for young wide receiver Luke McCaffrey, who turned heads with his performance at XPE Sports.

McCaffrey, previously a quarterback at Rice, impressed scouts with his skills, especially his agility and speed.

Despite his late start at the receiver position, McCaffrey’s potential has piqued the interest of NFL teams, with projections placing him in the middle rounds of the draft.

The San Francisco 49ers, known for their interest in young receivers, are a possible destination for McCaffrey given their multiple mid-round draft picks and history with the McCaffrey family.
