The Government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) have signed the Agreement for The Bahamas to host the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM) and the third edition of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF). The AAM will be held in Nassau, The Bahamas, from 12 – 14 June 2024.
Professor Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Afreximbank, said: “Afreximbank’s decision to hold the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings in The Bahamas will be the first time it has been held in the Caribbean. There is a positive outlook for many African and CARICOM countries, so building closer links between the two regions is mutually beneficial to accelerate growth and prosperity.
“The theme for the 31st AAM and the 3rd ACTIF is ‘Owing Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa.’ This theme reflects our focus on finding solutions to challenges affecting African Caribbean economies, promoting growth, development, and prosperity, and enhancing intra-African trade and investment flows.”
The Honourable Philip Davis, K.C, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, commented: “Hosting both the AAM and ACTIF shows The Bahamas’ commitment to fostering greater trade, investment, and transport linkages between AfriCaribbean nations. This will stimulate economic growth, development, and have positive societal impacts.”
The 31st Annual Meetings in the Caribbean emphasized the opportunities for the AfriCaribbean regions within a global context. The event will include the Opening Ceremony, Presidential Plenary, and panel sessions focusing on emerging neo-protectionism and the need for self-determination in a global Africa. The second day will continue with seminars, and the final day will be dedicated to the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum with events celebrating shared culture and socio-economic aspirations.
