When it comes to addressing the impact of climate change and the role of businesses in it, there appears to be a sense of pessimism.

Grace Sai, Co-Founder of Unravel Carbon and a speaker at the climate tech panel at Echelon 2022, mentioned in an interview with e27 that there is a lack of urgency among companies in meeting net zero targets.

“Public awareness of climate change has been on the rise in recent years, particularly with the increase in severe climate-related disasters. Regardless of societal acknowledgment, the effects are already evident and experienced by many,” she stated.

“I have noticed that while more companies are setting net zero targets, the sense of urgency in achieving these climate goals is lacking – 40% of them have not even set a target year for these commitments yet. With the era of pledges in the past, the next crucial decade must focus on pathways.”

Recognizing the necessity to uncover these pathways is why we must move beyond just symbolic gestures and concentrate on practical actions.
