President El-Sisi of Egypt Holds Meeting with United Nations Secretary-General

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today with Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres, with Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Major General Abbas Kamel, Philippe Lazzarini, and Elena Panova also in attendance.

During the meeting, various international and regional issues were discussed, with a focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire, exchange of captives, and the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza were highlighted by President El-Sisi. He praised the UN Secretary-General’s commitment to international law and humanitarian principles in addressing the crisis.

The importance of the UN Security Council taking action and the negative impact of funding cuts to UNRWA on innocent Palestinians were emphasized by President El-Sisi.

The UN Secretary-General commended Egypt’s efforts in advancing a ceasefire in Gaza and maintaining the Rafah border crossing open for aid delivery. Both leaders stressed the need for a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.

The necessity of avoiding escalation and displacement of Palestinians, as well as the rejection of military operations in Rafah, were agreed upon. The two-state solution was highlighted as the only path towards justice, security, and stability in the region.
