IAE 2024 Announces ONHYM as Bronze Sponsor in Morocco

The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) of Morocco will be a Bronze Sponsor at the upcoming Invest in African Energy (IAE) 2024 forum. The General Director, Amina Benkhadra, will discuss Morocco’s latest developments in gas exploration and production, midstream infrastructure, and green hydrogen.

ONHYM has been actively promoting the potential of Morocco’s onshore and offshore sedimentary basins, attracting interest from leading independent explorers. The country’s flagship Anchois gas development project, operated by Chariot Oil&Gas, is nearing start-up and aims to tap into 18 billion cubic meters of gas reserves. Last September, SDX Energy discovered a gas reservoir in the El Gharb basin, indicating prospectivity beyond Morocco’s proven basins like Essaouira, Tendrara, Larache, and Rharb. Predator Oil&Gas Holdings also began drilling the MOU-4 well in the onshore Guercif license last July, targeting both shallow and deep water gas plays.

Energy Capital&Power is organizing the IAE 2024 forum to facilitate investment between African energy markets and global investors. The event will take place on May 14-15, 2024 in Paris, offering delegates two days of engagement with industry experts, project developers, investors, and policymakers. Morocco is leading diversified energy development to enhance energy security and reduce costly imports. Projects like Anchois and Sound Energy’s Tendrara conventional gas development aim to produce 400 million cubic meters of gas annually, covering 40% of domestic gas consumption. Additionally, the planned 5,600-km Nigeria-Morocco pipeline will transport Nigerian gas to Moroccan consumers, with a final investment decision expected in 2024. Morocco has also allocated one million hectares for green hydrogen projects to attract investors and promote hydrogen development with abundant solar and wind resources.

Sandra Jeque, the Event&Project Director at Energy Capital&Power, looks forward to ONHYM’s participation at the forum to showcase Morocco’s energy investment opportunities and enhance integration with African projects and stakeholders.
