During a media briefing at the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA) on March 18, several infrastructure and finance-focused deals were signed. These six deals aim to boost private-led investment in South African infrastructure projects, covering areas such as project development, financing, capacity building, and research.
An MoU was signed between South Africa’s Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Sihle Zikalala and the UK’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, John Humphrey. This deal aims to strengthen cooperation regarding project preparation, appraisal, and development, building on agreements signed since the launch of Infrastructure South Africa in 2020.
SIDSSA, taking place on March 17-19 at the Century City Conference Center, serves as a platform for driving infrastructure development. The event brings together key stakeholders in South Africa and across the continent to accelerate economic activity through strategic infrastructure plans. Infrastructure South Africa, represented by Mameetse Masemola, Head of Infrastructure South Africa, signed the remaining five deals with various organizations. These include an MoU with the South African Institution of Civil Engineering to collaborate on capacity building, project development, and research in the infrastructure sector.
Another agreement was signed with the Association of African Exhibition Organizers to promote South Africa’s project portfolio globally. Additionally, agreements were signed with the Transnet National Ports Authority and the South African Road Agency (SANRAL) for the development of strategic projects and initiatives.
Infrastructure South Africa also signed an MoU with the University of Johannesburg to further collaboration in the infrastructure development space. The media briefing, facilitated by South Africa’s Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenny Morolong, provided updates on projects and national infrastructure priorities.
SIDSSA 2024 is organized by the Investment and Infrastructure Office under the Presidency, in collaboration with the Association of African Exhibition Organizers. The event is sponsored by the Development Bank of Southern Africa, with support from the National African Federation for the Building Industry and the National School of Government.
