Airtel Africa to host a significant event for the launch of Nxtra Data Centre in Lagos

Airtel Africa is preparing to hold a groundbreaking ceremony to start the construction of its inaugural Nxtra Data Center. The event will take place on the 12th of March 2024 at Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos, and will be attended by distinguished guests such as the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun; and the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.

Recognizing the increasing importance of well-managed data centers and co-location infrastructure on the continent, Airtel Africa is launching Nxtra, starting with the Lagos site.

Airtel states that the event will signify a significant milestone in Airtel Africa’s efforts to improve data sovereignty, security, and preservation within the continent. The cutting-edge facility is set to cater to the changing needs of businesses, governments, and large corporations as digital services grow exponentially and the demand for strong data capacity rises. Airtel plans to build business-agnostic centers in major cities across all 14 countries where they operate.

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa, Segun Ogunsanya, commented, “Nxtra is a crucial step towards unlocking more opportunities for businesses to expand and drive prosperity across Africa. We are delighted to provide another key infrastructure to bring the benefits of technology closer to Africans.”

The Lagos facility, a 34MW data center, is expected to operate with an impressive PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) score of 1.3 and host high-density racks.

The Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Carl Cruz, expressed excitement about unveiling the Nxtra Data Center to potential customers in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub. “We believe this infrastructure will propel Lagos and Nigeria towards a sustainable and more inclusive digital era,” he stated.

The Nxtra Data Center aligns with Airtel’s unwavering commitment to introducing technological solutions that empower communities, drive economic growth, and move the continent towards a prosperous future.

In addition to senior government officials, the Nxtra groundbreaking event will also feature other notable guests from tech, finance, construction, and media industries.
