The Episcopal consecration of Reverend Father Teshome Fikre (Ph.D.) was carried out on 11th February 2024 in Emdibir Eparchy. The Pope had appointed him to be Co adjutor Bishop in December 2023.

The Holy Mass and consecration ceremony were led by His Eminence Cardinal Abune Birhaneyesus, President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia, along with other Bishops and Priests. The event was attended by His Grace Archbishop Antoine Camilleri, Apostolic Nuncio to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Bishop Mussie, Bishop of Emdibir Eparchy, Catholic Bishops from Ethiopia and Eritrea, Rev. Fr. Raphael Simbine, Secretary General of SECAM, Rev. Father Anthony Makunde, Secretary General of AMECEA Secretariat, Archbishop Melketsedik of eastern and western Gurage Diocese, Rev. Father Yonas Yigezu, President of Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, His Excellency Ambassador Misganu Arega, the Ethiopian Federal Republic Foreign Affairs State Minister, and many faithful from all over Ethiopia.

During the Homily, His Eminence Cardinal emphasized the responsibility of a Bishop to preach and spread the Gospel of the Lord, even in difficult times. He also promised to stand by the newly consecrated Bishop, Abune Lukas, and assist him with prayers to fulfill his responsibilities.

In his remarks, Bishop Lukas announced the verse he has chosen for his time of Episcopacy, “Look after My Sheep” John 21:15. He highlighted the example of Jesus as a shepherd and sought the united support and prayers of the Bishops, guests, and fellow Catholics present.

Bishop Mussie’s leadership has been exemplary, leaving a lasting mark on the community. He has spearheaded the construction of 15 new churches, opened 12 religious congregations, and initiated projects in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social support. He has also championed financial empowerment through income-generating projects.

The celebration program concluded with a thanksgiving service. Reverend Father Habte, Director of Emdibir Eparchy, described Bishop Mussie’s exemplary service and welcomed Bishop Lukas as his successor. Guests of Honor also expressed their happiness and solidarity.
