President Wavel Ramkalawan and Vice President Ahmed Afif conducted a full-day visit to key locations on Praslin and La Digue today. The purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of critical projects and address pending issues.
During the visit to Praslin, the delegation observed the severe coastal erosion at Anse Marie-Louise, which has damaged the road. Immediate action for the construction of a seawall is underway, and rock-armouring will be done temporarily to minimize road degradation.
The delegation also inspected the coastline along Amitié Road to Roche Corbiseau, which is also affected by coastal erosion. Urgent rock armouring will begin to alleviate the situation.
The leaders, along with district authorities, also visited sites with dangerous trees that need to be removed immediately. Discussions on housing projects and desilting projects were also part of the agenda.
Issues relating to road rehabilitation and the installation of street lights were addressed, with both districts set to receive 25 new lights each soon.
On La Digue, the President and Vice-President visited the flooded areas on the La Digue Plateau and inspected the progress at the site of the New Sewerage plant. They also viewed coastal erosion sites where remedial actions are needed.
Following the visits, President Ramkalawan emphasized the importance of reviewing and understanding the situation on the ground to ensure key projects are executed in a timely manner to benefit the Praslin and La Digue communities.
